Deaf Bridges

30 March @ 7:15 pm - 8:15 pm

Deaf Bridges is a show that attempts to build a bridge between the Deaf and hearing worlds through comedy. Deaf Bridges tells stories about sign language interpreting, Deaf culture and community, Auslan and hearing people. Ben also teaches his audiences sign language in preparation for the Deaf revolution that he is initiating.

If you ever wanted to become fluent in Auslan then this show is guaranteed to keep that dream alive. Most of the Auslan you will learn in this show will be swear words so you can show your boss what you learnt. The Deaf abides.

Ben is a sign language interpreter and stand-up comedian who has just come back from touring his show Deaf Bridges across Australia.  He tells jokes in English and Auslan so you can see and hear him be funny at the same time.

Ben knows Auslan because he is a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult) and because he has a Deaf mum, Ben knows how embarrassing silences can be. His life is very similar to the movie CODA except he was never an American teenage girl with dreams of singing.  He now works as a sign language interpreter and helps bridge the gap between the Deaf and hearing worlds.

Ben was a 2002 RAW comedy national finalist where he did comedy about knowing sign language and growing up with a Deaf mum. He has come a long way since then and now tells stories about being a sign language interpreter and growing up with a Deaf mum.
