Daryl Peebles (formally Novak ‘n’ Good – these days, not much better).
Yep. For 30 years (1981 - 2011) Daryl was the debonair half of Tasmania’s longest-running comedy duo, Novak ‘n’ Good delighting audiences throughout Tasmania, Victoria and NSW. Novak ‘n’ Good even had a short stint in Bali entertaining German and English tourists who were left wondering whether these two yobbos were typical Tasmanians.
Since 2011, Daryl continued his passion for comedy, performing wherever he could get a gig – from Jokers Comedy Club in Hobart to the Ambassador Hotel in Mackay and Wee Johnnies Comedy Club in Winnipeg, Canada.
For the past four years he has participated in annual Mental Health Week Comedy Road Shows.
Just for the record, Daryl does take his comedy seriously. In 2015 he completed a seven-year study as a mature-age, part-time student graduating with a PhD for his research into the value of positive humour in Australian workplaces. And he has done a lot of work exploring the value of appropriate humour use in the mental health sector.
He has written comedy scripts for the annual Old Nick Co Tasmanian University Revue since 1979; the annual Bawdy Pantomime since 2003 and several one-act and full-length comedy plays – two of which are still being produced by theatre companies in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
Dr Daz has certainly earned his reputation as the ‘grandfather of Tasmanian comedy’. Check him out here >>>
